If you are trying to lose weight then you have probably come across something along the lines of someone, some program, or some article telling you to eat this, not that.
Which, although this is somewhat true, it does not exactly help people to lose weight and keep it off. We all know we should eat more vegetables (eat this), and should cut out our sugar intake (not that). But with that knowledge, that we all seem to have – are you still struggling with your weight?
I have seen lots of versions of Eat This, Not That in promotional ads. They start with saying something like, “Find out which superfood helps people cut cholesterol in half.” Or it might be something like, “This healthy food may be causing you to gain weight.” You’ve seen these right? And we are bound to click on that article because, hey, we want to know the secret to losing weight.
Well my friends, if you are tired of try to like and eat Kale because it’s really good for you and will help you lose weight – then I’ll share what little bit of knowledge that I know.
Eat This, Not That, is only a part of losing weight and keeping it off. Yes you will ultimately need to eat more vegetables and less sugar – but it’s the route in how you get there that makes all the difference. There are hundreds (if not more) diet and weight loss plans out there. The all work – if you follow the plan – but who can? And if you can stick to it, for how long? And then we all know what happens, we finally cannot stick to that plan any longer and the weight comes back on, sometimes with a vengeance.
If you truly want to lose weight and keep it off – then it all starts in your head. Yes in your head with your thinking. We all have a little devil side and a little angel side, and they are at conflict, especially what you should or should not eat when you are trying to lose weight. You need to learn and understand these two opposite sides in your head and the messages each one whispers in your ear. You know the devil one. Sometimes sounds like, “Come on, just eating one won’t hurt anything.”
Recognizing these little conversations in your head from the little devil and the little angel, is the most important first step towards long term weight loss. To get help with identifying and hearing these internal conversations, then maybe it’s time to hire a Weight Management Coach rather than the Nutritionist. After all who is likely going to tell us, Eat This, Not That, and then not give us any guidance on how to NOT Eat that.
