When I get people inquiring about my weight loss coaching I have noticed quite a number of people ask if I provide meal plans.
Right there I know these people have bought into the idea that you need some sort of 'gimmick' to lose weight. I use the word gimmick but I really mean that they are looking for something outside themselves or something external to help them lose the weight.
Let's look at some of the gimmicks that are out there. Some or all of these you may have already tried. I know I tried several of them without much success.
*Weight Watchers: Their gimmick is to count points.
*Nutrisystem: Is to provide the food for you.
*Dr. Bernstein: Extreme meal restriction and Vitamin B12 shots.
*U Weight Loss: (Are they even still around?) They have macro-nutrient meal plans and supplements you are required to take.
*Herbal Magic: They have required supplements and guided meal planning.
*Ideal Protein: They are in on the protein push. They have recipes that include their products to make and their own meal replacement products.
There are also numerous diet plans out there, which are far to extensive for me to even start to list.
The point is... If you are anything like me, then you've tried these. Lost some weight. Couldn't stick to the plan any longer and quit. Then gained all the weight back - and probably some extra pounds for good measure.
What I have since learned, and now teach my clients, is no 'gimmick' is going to help you lose the weight and keep it off.
The reason you struggle with your weight and can't stick to weight loss programs is because of the subconscious self sabotage that we all have within us. Some of our self-saboteurs work better than others.
It is the unnoticed self talk that goes on inside our brains that say things like, "I hate these meal plans, they taste terrible.", "I'm never going to be able to lose this weight.", "But, I really miss eating cake." These little things you tell yourself will derail you every time.
The subconscious self sabotage also works against any changes you want to make as your subconscious wants things to remain as they currently are and have been. You subconscious will under-mine your efforts to change.
So what do you do to change things then?
You work with someone like a weight loss coach who helps you uncover those self sabotaging self talk. Someone who helps you pull back the covers on your unconscious behaviors.
What I know now is that if you truly want to achieve something it starts inward - with your brain and your own internal self talk.
I used to scoff at the idea that my weight loss success was tied to what I unconsciously thought, until I actually worked at it. I now am a believer and work at helping others do the same and become believers too.
