As a Certified Weight Loss Coach, there are a few things that I see coming up again and again, that seem to be common among many of my clients who struggle in their efforts to try and lose weight.
These main reasons they can't lose weight are:
1. The just plain over eat, usually from habit.
2. Their body's don't get enough nourishment from the foods they eat, so the body yells for more food because it is not getting the nutrients it needs to function optimally.
3. The are addicted to certain foods (usually ones containing sugar) and feel powerless to quit eating those foods.
4. The eat to smooth out or avoid emotions (called emotional eating).
So what does one do, to overcome these reasons?
The first step is tuning in to your own body and habits and identifying when and why you eat. Also looking at the foods you are choosing to eat, all give you insight as to which one (or more) of the above reasons why you are not able to lose weight.
Second, making little changes in your habits are a good start to changing your eating behavior so that you can be more successful at long term weight loss. Careful you don't make to big of changes or to many changes at one time. Making to many or to big of a change, will cause you to quit and revert to old habits quicker than anything. There is nothing that body hates more than big drastic changes, and will sabotage your efforts.
Third, you may need to seek out help and support to help you decide what changes you need to make and to help you keep accountable in the changes you choose to make. This help may be in the form of a friend, a counsellor, or even a Life Coach or Weight Loss Coach.
